皆川明 1967年出生於東京。文化服裝學院畢業後，1995年成立自己的時尚服裝品牌mina。2000年在東京高級住宅區白金台開店。2002年，在青山Sparal Garden舉辦展示會「粒子」。2003年品牌名稱改為mina perhonen，mina perhonen白金店也於2003年一月底重新開幕。此外，皆川明也常為雜誌撰寫文章。在日常生活中創造自己獨特的布花設計，持續創作無法以「流行」一語蔽之的服裝。
